On September 22, 2025, U.S. Deputy Principal Officer for Consulate General Istanbul, Michael Kidwell, paid a visit to the Istanbul Chamber of Industry (ICI). The meeting, hosted at ICI’s Odakule headquarters by ICI Vice Chairman of Board of Directors, İrfan Özhamaratlı, was also attended by ICI Member of Board of Directors Dr. Faruk Sarı and U.S. Commercial Attaché Daniel Pint.
The discussions centered on current economic and trade relations between Türkiye and the United States, with a particular focus on potential steps to further expand bilateral trade volume. Participants exchanged views on the challenges posed by the additional tariffs introduced by the U.S. government, underlining the need to establish a more balanced and constructive trade framework. The delegation also addressed issues encountered by Turkish businesspeople in U.S. visa procedures.
Moreover, the talks highlighted opportunities to foster cooperation between Turkish and American companies in the areas of digitalization, green transformation, and high value-added manufacturing. Various potential projects to advance collaboration in these fields were considered.
Following the meeting, bilateral business-to-business sessions were held between Turkish companies and U.S. firms visiting Türkiye under the “Advanced Manufacturing Technologies Trade Mission,” organized by the U.S. Department of Commerce in partnership with ICI. During the bilateral meetings, seven American companies engaged with thirty-five Turkish companies, resulting in a total of sixty business-to-business discussions.
