ICI Türkiye Export Markets Climate Index

ICI Türkiye Export Climate Index

The Istanbul Chamber of Industry (ICI) publishes the ICI Türkiye Export Markets Climate Index each month in order to measure trends in overall demand conditions in the key export markets of the Turkish manufacturing sector.

As a leading indicator, this index provides insights into the export market potential of the manufacturing sector and helps identify which markets warrant greater focus.

Published since 2019 as part of the ongoing collaboration between the Istanbul Chamber of Industry and S&P Global (formerly known as IHS Markit prior to the merger), the ICI Export Markets Climate Index is derived from PMI survey data covering more than 40 countries that serve as export markets for Turkish manufacturers. The index is calculated by aggregating the PMI Output indices of these countries using a weighted average methodology. The weights are determined based on each country’s share in Türkiye’s manufacturing exports in the previous calendar year.

Readings above 50.0 indicate an improvement in demand conditions across export markets compared to the previous month, while values below 50.0 signal a deterioration. The distance of the index from the 50.0 threshold reflects the magnitude of the change in export market conditions.

The ICI Export Markets Climate Index is published on the 8th day of each month, or the following working day if the 8th falls on a non-working day.
