ICI Türkiye Manufacturing PMI

ICI Türkiye Manufacturing PMI

As part of the collaboration between the Istanbul Chamber of Industry (ICI) and S&P Global (formerly known as IHS Markit prior to the merger), which has been in place since 2015, the Türkiye Manufacturing PMI has been published under the auspices of the Istanbul Chamber of Industry and shared with industrialists and the broader economic community.

Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) is one of the key indicators closely monitored by global markets and the economic press to assess business conditions.

As one of the first data releases of the month regarding the growth performance of the manufacturing sector, published much earlier than official statistics and showing a high correlation with actual data, PMI figures serve as a strong leading indicator.

The Purchasing Managers’ Indices compiled by S&P Global are calculated for more than 40 countries, covering sectors such as manufacturing, services, and construction (the sectoral coverage varies by country), and are published as monthly reports.

Within the survey conducted for the calculation of the indices, participating companies are asked whether indicators such as output, new orders, inventory levels, employment, supplier performance, input costs, and selling prices have improved/increased or deteriorated/decreased compared to the previous period.

Diffusion indices are calculated for each of these indicators, and the headline PMI figure is obtained by weighting these indices.

PMI readings above 50.0 indicate improvement compared to the previous month, while readings below 50.0 signal a deterioration. The distance of the index from the 50.0 threshold reflects the magnitude of the change compared to the previous month.

The historical data set of the ICI Türkiye Manufacturing PMI covers a long period dating back to June 2005. All data are seasonally adjusted before being reported.

The ICI Türkiye Manufacturing PMI report is published on this page on the first working day of each month.
