Our Vice-Chairman of the Board İrfan Özhamaratlı and General Secretary Melek Us hosted a visit to the Chamber by Naikolin Jaka, President of the Chamber of Trade and Industry of Tirana, Albania, and an accompanying delegation that included businessmen Aleks Millo, Andrea Zaja and Representative of Türkiye at the Tiranian Chamber, Dr. Erion Çerekja.

Expressing their disappointment with the trade relations between the two countries that was so much beneath full potential, Jaka and Özhamaratlı stated that businessmen had a great responsibility to work to increase the trade volume.

Jake pointed out that the needed legal framework for the development of trade relations was already in place, including the Free Trade Agreement that went into force in 2008, remarking that the political climate was also good as could be judged from how the prime ministers of the two countries came together a few times a year. He said that this positive potential needed to be translated into actual trade.

Jaka asserted that Türkiye should not avoid positioning itself as a major country in the Balkans and that his expectations did not only involve trade but also cooperative investments. He stressed that Turkish investors would be facilitated in every way if they made Albania a base for reaching out to surrounding countries in the Balkans, including Italy, Kosovo and Macedonia.

Saying that he would be happy to inform the members of our Chamber about the opportunities existing in Albania, ICI Vice Chairman İrfan Özhamaratlı stated that efforts would be initiated at the highest level to organize a delegation to visit Türkiye.

A Cooperative Agreement between the Chambers was signed at the meeting to promote the development of relations between the two organizations. Jaka and Özhamaratlı stressed that they would follow up the outcome of this agreement.
