The Istanbul Chamber of Industry Türkiye Manufacturing Export Markets Climate Index, which measures the business conditions in the key export markets of the Turkish manufacturing sector, released the results of the index for July 2026. The index figures above the 50.0 no-change mark signals an improvement in the export markets climate, while the figures below signal a deterioration.

The Istanbul Chamber of Industry Türkiye Manufacturing Export Markets Climate Index ticked up to 52.2 in July from 50.4 in June, signalling a modest strengthening in export demand conditions. This was also the most significant improvement in the last eight months. Thus, the outlook for export markets has strengthened continuously since January 2024. In July, business activity increased in eight of the Turkish manufacturing sector’s top 10 export markets. In Germany, the largest export market, output recorded growth for the first time in the last four months, albeit at a moderate pace. The United Kingdom, meanwhile, returned to expansion. Exports to these two countries account for approximately 15 percent of the Turkish manufacturing sector’s total exports.

Growth in the U.S. at its fastest pace in nine months

In the U.S., business activity increased significantly, and growth reached its fastest pace in nine months. In Italy, growth reached its highest rate in the past eight months, while in Spain, it remained strong, reaching its highest pace in the past year and a half. Other economies where growth accelerated in July included the Netherlands and the United Arab Emirates. In both countries, business activity showed a marked increase, growing slightly faster than in June. In Romania, manufacturing output began the third quarter with a moderate increase, ending a 25-month period of contraction. Among Turkish manufacturers’ top 10 export markets, business activity declined only in France and Poland. However, the pace of decline in both countries slowed compared to June. Among the economies monitored under the survey, the sharpest contraction in output was recorded in Egypt, though mildest since March. And the fastest growth in output was recorded in Uganda. Thailand and Singapore followed closely behind. However, the share of these three economies in Turkish manufacturing exports remains quite small.

Commenting on the Istanbul Chamber of Industry Türkiye Manufacturing Export Markets Climate Index, Andrew Harker, Economics Director, S&P Global Market Intelligence, said: “Growth signals from some of Türkiye's key export markets clearly show that the global economy made a positive start to the second half of the year. Most major export markets either returned to growth or saw stronger expansion in July. These developments provided manufacturers with more opportunities to secure new business. However, continued uncertainty surrounding the Middle East suggests the outlook could remain volatile in the coming months.”
